 Reviews "Hop, Skip and Jump” By: Bob Mintzer Instrumentation: Big Band Publisher: Kendor Music Inc. Grade: 4 $35. 00 Funk -Latin = 120 Hop, Skip and Jump is just a superlative original chart by Bob Mintzer that is playable by and should be very appealing to good high school and university bands alike. The feel is Latin/Funk utilizing straight eighth notes throughout the piece. Mintzer expertise in writing and voicing chords will allow these school big bands to experience arranging at its best. The solo section is “improvisor friendly” with changes that lend themselves to the young soloist. By writing this way Bob allows a lot of players to not only sound good, but perhaps dive into the world of improvisation for the first time! As with any chart paying close attention to dynamics, time and flow of the eighth note will help make this arrangement a good experience for all who play as well as hear it.
