 Reviews "The Gremlin’s Revenge" Composed & Arranged By: Dean Sorenson Instrumentation: Big Band Publisher: KJOS Music Company / Signature Series Grade: 3 Medium Swing = 140 $35.00 The Gremlin’s Revenge is an original, medium tempo minor blues which is very playable even by a middle school big band. A four bar introduction presents a syncopated rhythm which is dominant throughout the chart. The melody is introduced by the saxes and then is handed over to the trumpets for further exploration. A very well-written soli section for the saxes appears at measure 27 and leads the band into open solos at measure 58. The solo section is left to the discretion of the director with backgrounds written for all sections: saxes, trumpets, and trombones on cue. This is a very good vechicle for learning to improvise in a big band setting. The students, as well as the audience, will enjoy the end result after the band has had a chance to grow into this minor blues, “The Gremlin’s Revenge.
