 Reviews "MAS Production" Written and Arranged By: Matt Harris Instrumentation: Big Band Publisher: kendor Music, Inc. Grade 4 Medium Bright Swing (Quarter Note) q = 112 $48.00 “MAS Production” was commissioned by the Missouri IAJE Unit for the Missouri All-State Jazz Ensemble auditions. It features every section in the band on a medium-up “rhythm changes” melody. Solo changes are included in every part allowing anyone in the band to be featured. The unison/octave melodies do not need to be played too loud. Think about the blending and phrasing for a precise sound. Like any different piece of music, start off slow and gradually build up the tempo until the melody feels comfortable. A unique concept to this chart is that there is a separate soli for every section of the band, and I might add, they are well written! Listen carefully to the lead player in the soli sections for articulations and phrasing. Breath, phrase and accent exactly like the lead player so no one in the ensemble “sticks out.” With solid rhythm changes for all instruments and great soli writing for everyone in the ensemble this is a must have.
