"Blue Dinosaurs"
By: Dean Sorenson
Instrumentation: Big Band – “Standard of Excellence Jazz In Concert Series”
Publisher: KJOS Neil A. Kjos Music Company
Grade 1 Medium Swing Tempo = 148 $45.00

" Blue Dinosaurs" is a grade 1 blues swing chart inspired by the composer’s memories of a Rochester, New York rib restaurant named The Dinosaur. In the words of the composer, “Common practice would dictate titling the piece ‘Dinosaur Blues,” but I thought it would be a little different to try to reverse the order – thus, “Blues Dinosaurs.”

This original by Dean Sorenson is an excellent vehicle for a beginning jazz ensemble. It has all the tools to teach the young jazz student swing figures he/she will see for many years to come.

This chart is part of “The Standard of Excellence Jazz In Concert:” series from KJOS. It allows your vibes, flue, and clarinet, French horn and tuba player to participate and play this music perhaps for the first time.

If you just started a jazz ensemble or have the interest to get a new ensemble assembled then this chart and the series from KJOS is a very good place to begin.

Top note for trumpet Eb the staff
