"Timeless"
Written & Arranged By: Bob Mintzer
Instrumentation: Big Band
Publisher: Kendore Music, Inc.
Grade 3 1/2 Samba Tempo = 84 $58.00

This Brazilian-flavored piece features a lush orchestration overlaying a gentle samba groove. Playing the commercially recorded CD “Gently” DMP345 is perhaps the best preparation for a band attempting to play this piece.

The unique timbre of this piece is attributed to the instrumentation, but this chart has been adapted so that traditional instrumentation can be used. Three flutes and two clarinet parts make up the woodwind section, but alternate substitute parts are included for two altos, two tenors and bari saxes. The two horns in F are also optional, and all trumpets double on flugelhorn.

It’s important that the winds are accurate with rhythms, in tune and always aware of the blend and balance of their parts. The rhythm section will help assist the winds with the style and flow of the piece by playing a convincing samba groove.

The key to playing “Timeless” is performing softly with intensity. Do this and “Timeless” will be remembered for a very long time!

Top note for trumpet is written G above the staff
